Shillong, Sept 12: BJP leader and MLA AL Hek today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and said the BJP is preparing to form its own government in Meghalaya.
In a press statement after the meeting, Hek said detailed discussions were held on the state’s political situation and the road ahead, including the contentious FCRA Bill.
According to Hek, Shah said he has already held consultations with at least 35 Christian forums and leaders on the FCRA Bill. The Bill is currently with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and Shah assured that Christian stakeholders from Meghalaya will be called to Delhi for further talks after the JPC process.
Hek said he presented his assessment of Meghalaya’s emerging political scenario and the party’s vision.
“We discussed the clear opportunity to emerge as a strong, credible and independent force. I sought his guidance and blessings to strengthen our organisation across the state and work towards forming our own government,” Hek said.
He added the political scenario is changing fast and the coming days will be decisive.
“Our goal is not to just participate, but to provide strong, stable and accountable leadership through our own government, rooted in people’s aspirations,” Hek stated.
