Kohima: Sept 13: At least 3 people who include 3 members of a family died after they were believed to have consumed illicit and spurious liquor in Nagaland on Sunday forcing the authority to initiate a probe into it.
The trio died at the Civil Hospital in Nagaland’s Tuensang district since Saturday which was why the police has urged the people to refrain from consuming liquor. With this, the toll in the spurious liquor consumption case has gone up to 9 in the district.
When admitted in the hospital, the victims complained before the doctors of breathlessness after consuming adulterated liquor and later died during treatment.
There is no formal confirmation of illicit liquor consumption, the police said that the victims reportedly succumbed to what is suspected to be spurious liquor.
Tuensang police received reports on Saturday regarding a pattern of deaths involving people who had been admitted to Tuensang Civil Hospital.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that in most of the cases, the deceased had reportedly consumed liquor before developing symptoms such as blurred vision, severe headache, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.
