Shillong, Aug 24: Meghalaya Police were down twice but roared back to beat Sawmer 4-2 in a high-voltage Shillong Premier League clash at SSA Stadium today.
It was goal rush in first 15 minutes. Sawmer’s Diego Khyriem, back after missing two games, struck in the 2nd minute, the fastest goals of the season. MLP hit back through Pynshaidor Nongrang in the 5th. Banteilang Lyngdoh restored Sawmer lead in the 11th after missing a one-on-one moment earlier, but Rapborlang Marwein’s bullet off the post made it 2-2 in the 15th.
Banteilang had a goal ruled out for offside in the 36th minute as the game settled after the manic start.
MLP turned on the heat after break. Pynshaidor rattled the crossbar, Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar then denied Rapborlang from a corner, but could not stop Bikram Chettri’s towering header from the next corner in the 67th.
A defensive howler sealed it for the cops. A poor back pass left Sawmer in tatters and Pynshailang L Lyngkhoi tapped in the fourth in the 84th.
Both sides came in on 2-1 wins. MLP stuck to the same XI that beat Langsning on Aug 18, while Sawmer made three changes — Diego, Enestar Malngiang and Michaelson Kurbah in for Oresterwell Langshiang, Andy Mawthoh and Wanshanlang Dkhar.
