Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya has flagged 6,51,644 electors for verification under the Special Intensive Revision 2026, with notices being issued and hearings underway across districts.
Chief Electoral Officer Meghalaya chaired an online review with DCs, DEOs, EROs and AEROs on Monday to take stock of the Notice and Hearing phase. Officials said 2,22,786 cases fall under the “No Mapping” category with 2005 rolls, while 4,28,858 have mapping discrepancies.
The CEO directed district machinery to ensure timely delivery of notices and systematic scheduling of hearings so that every affected elector gets adequate opportunity to appear with supporting documents.
According to ECINET data, the discrepancies include name mismatches with 2005 records, parent name mismatches, unrealistic age gaps — less than 15 years or more than 50 years between elector and parent, less than nine months between siblings, more than six children linked to one parent, and less than 40 years between elector and grandparent.
“Each case must be examined on its individual merits and electors given a fair chance to clarify,” the CEO told officials.
In a separate weekly meeting with representatives of Recognized National and State Political Parties, the CEO reviewed grievance redressal, publication of claims and objections lists, and appointment of Booth Level Agents.
As per the latest figures, 1,810 BLAs have been appointed across the state. The parties also discussed visits by Electoral Roll Observers to districts as part of the ongoing SIR exercise.
