Shillong , Aug 17 : Meghalaya has rolled back its ban. The state-wide freeze on ‘STING’ energy drink was lifted Friday, ending nine days of uncertainty for retailers and consumers.
The Commissionerate of Food Safety had halted sale and stocking of the caffeinated drink on August 6 after reports linked it to a student’s death. The move was precautionary, pending an inquiry.
That inquiry is now complete. In a report filed on August 14, the Food Safety Officer found no causal link between ‘STING’ and the reported death.
Based on those findings, authorities said there was no ground to continue the interim restriction. The order makes it clear the earlier freeze was not a finding of fault and did not mean the product or manufacturer violated the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
With immediate effect, shops across Meghalaya can resume sale, stocking and distribution of ‘STING’.
