Jowai, Aug 14: Meghalaya’s homegrown bakery brand Roi Plants & Bakes opened its first full-fledged outlet at Shangpung, Laskein Block in West Jaintia Hills District today.
The inauguration was attended by Comingone Ymbon, MLA & Adviser to Home (Police) Department; M. Passah, Headman of Shangpung; and officials from PRIME Meghalaya.
Ymbon lauded the venture as an example of youth entrepreneurship in the state. “Local enterprises like this show the potential of our young people. PRIME Meghalaya’s support is helping turn home-based ideas into real businesses,” he said, urging more youth to tap into CM-ELEVATE schemes.
Founded in 2022 as a home bakery by Nidaroi Wann, Roi Plants & Bakes is known for customised celebration cakes and sugar-free options for health-conscious and diabetic customers. The brand grew through direct sales, social media, exhibitions and word-of-mouth, and won first prize at the First Shillong Cake Show in 2023. It was also invited to Cakeology Fest.
Under PRIME’s incubation, the business received mentoring, guidance on compliance, packaging, labelling and food testing.
Wann, a PRIME beneficiary, was listed among the Top 35 in the Chief Minister’s E-Championship Challenge 6.0 and received a ₹2 lakh Business Support Grant. The Shangpung outlet is the first set up with PRIME support and has created jobs for over 5 people locally.
“I started from my kitchen. With mentorship and support, we are here today,” Wann said, adding she hopes her story encourages more aspiring entrepreneurs in the region.
