Shillong, July 7: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society has found no evidence so far to back allegations made by trainees undergoing On-the-Job Training in Pune, and said two trainees who wished to return were brought back at government cost.
In a statement, MSSDS said it acted immediately after receiving information on July 1, regarding posts on social media and in sections of the media. The concerned Training and Placement Provider was directed to contact all trainees, verify their welfare, and facilitate return travel for anyone wanting to exit the programme.
Two trainees, including the complainant, chose to return to Meghalaya. Arrangements were made without delay. All other trainees were independently told they could also return at government expense, but they voluntarily opted to continue their OJT and placement, MSSDS stated.
Verification was carried out through multiple channels — Pune police, representatives of National Volunteers Meghalaya, and a video conference by MSSDS. Based on these, the Society said no material or testimony has emerged to substantiate allegations against the employer or the empanelled TPP.
Trainees continuing the programme told officials they felt safe, were comfortable with the training environment, and wanted to complete their OJT. They expressed concern that unverified claims could hurt the credibility of their batch and discourage employers from hiring youth from Meghalaya. They also said the complainant had earlier been counselled on workplace protocols and training discipline.
The complainant had enrolled for the Senior Beauty & Spa Therapist course after accepting an offer letter detailing the job role and terms. The programme is fully government-sponsored and covers training, travel, accommodation, and a monthly stipend of ₹4,000 during OJT. All records have been shared with authorities for independent scrutiny.
MSSDS said empanelled TPPs are required to conduct due diligence on employers and that candidates receive counselling and orientation from enrolment to pre-departure on job role, pay, and workplace expectations.
The Society cautioned that unverified narratives could damage confidence in skill development initiatives and deprive deserving youth of job opportunities.
The matter remains under examination. MSSDS said if any violation is established through due process, the government will take the strictest action under law and the contract. It reaffirmed its commitment to safe migration, ethical recruitment, and transparent placements for Meghalaya’s youth.
