Shillong, Sept 6: The BJP is set to gain major momentum ahead of the MP Lok Sabha bye-election 2026.
Former UDP legislator and General Secretary Dr. Jemino Mawthoh will officially join the BJP on September 12, 2026, in Shillong.
Party sources said top BJP high command leaders are likely to fly down from Delhi to welcome the former Nongthymmai MLA into the party fold.
His entry is being seen as a big shot in the arm for the BJP, which has been struggling to make inroads in Meghalaya despite being a partner in the NPP-led MDA government.
Party insiders indicated that BJP is likely to announce Dr. Mawthoh as its official candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha bye-election 2026.
The Shillong seat fell vacant after the demise of sitting VPP MP Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon.
With Mawthoh’s clean image and strong base in Khasi Hills, BJP hopes to turn the tide in the upcoming bye-poll.
