Shillong, June 30: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma put entrepreneurs at the heart of Meghalaya’s growth story Tuesday, launching the “Achievers of the Month” programme to showcase business success and fuel a startup culture.
Speaking in Shillong, Sangma said government can lay the foundation with policy and infrastructure, but entrepreneurship is what makes the economy take off. He called it the bedrock of sustainable livelihoods and long-term development.
The new platform will bring achievers from diverse sectors to share their journeys and show how state support turned ideas into enterprises. Sangma said celebrating these stories breaks barriers and inspires others. “We want to share your stories with the world. What may seem simple to you is truly inspiring for others,” he said.
July will now be observed as a dedicated month for entrepreneurs. The government plans storytelling sessions, public engagements, and social media campaigns to highlight success stories from across Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister admitted building a business means uncertainty and sleepless nights but stressed that passion and resilience define winners. He urged aspiring entrepreneurs to ignore setbacks and keep pushing toward their goals.
He pointed to PRIME and rural outreach programmes that have helped small ventures scale up to supply major cities, especially in agriculture, sports, and music.
Fifty entrepreneurs from across the state were felicitated at the launch. They discussed expansion plans with the Chief Minister and sought continued support to strengthen Meghalaya’s startup ecosystem. The initiative will later expand to honour achievers in sports, agriculture, education, and public service.
