Shillong, June 27 : Meghalaya has been placed on alert for thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days, with the state weather office urging residents to be prepared and take action as monsoon activity intensifies.
The warning issued on June 27 covers the period from June 27 to July 1, forecasting thunderstorm and lightning activity across the state, along with heavy rain on day one and very heavy rain between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm likely in the following days.
Authorities have advised people to stay updated, avoid open areas during lightning, and secure property against strong winds and waterlogging, as conditions remain very likely to worsen through the weekend.
The alert comes as part of Meghalaya’s monsoon watch, with officials stressing preparedness to reduce risk to life and property during the peak rain spell.
