New Delhi, May 03: Amid unprecedented security measures, the stage is set for vote counting in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on Monday.
According to information, the counting process is scheduled to start at 8 in the morning, and the postal ballots would be taken for counting simultaneously. From 9 in the morning the counting will start in the EVMs. The initial trends are expected at 11 in the morning.
In Assam, 722 candidates are in the fray for the 126-member state assembly where the BJP-led NDA with Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is seeking fresh mandate. The Congress party is taking the lead of the opposition parties which include Raijor Dal, AJP and others.
In West Bengal, 2926 candidates are contesting for 294 legislative Assembly where the TMC with Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister is seeking mandate for the fourth consecutive terms. BJP is also trying its level best to overpower TMC using all political might.
On the other hand, 140 counting centers have been set up across 43 locations in Kerala where the process scheduled to begin at 8 am on Monday.
According to information, 15,464 personnel, including 140 returning officers, 1,340 additional returning officers, 4,208 micro-observers, 4,208 counting supervisors, and 5,563 counting assistants, have been deployed for the exercise.
In the state of Tamil Nadu, preparations are in full swing for the counting of votes for Assembly elections, to be held on Monday. Single-phase polling for all 234 constituencies in the state was held on 23rd of April. The state has 188 general constituencies, 44 reserved constituencies, and 2 ST seats. Altogether 4,023 candidates were in the fray this time. Counting on Monday will begin at 8 AM, starting with postal ballots.
The Union Territory of Puducherry is also gearing up for poll counting on Monday. Puducherry Chief Electoral Officer P Jawahar, the entire process will be conducted in a transparent manner under the supervision of observers appointed by the Election Commission of India. In Keralam, all arrangements have been completed for the counting of votes for the Assembly elections.
