Shillong(Meghalaya), April 20: The Meghalaya BJP on Monday distanced itself from A L Hek’s public offer of a party ticket to former Chief Secretary D P Wahlang, calling it a personal remark with no sanction from the party.
In a sharp clarification, the State Media Team said no such offer was discussed by the senior leadership and stressed that the BJP runs on rules, not remarks. “Allotment of party ticket mandatorily follows procedures laid down by the central steering group. Only the central parliamentary board can select candidates for MP or MLA polls, and that too only after dates are announced,” the party said.
The statement laid out the process: once an election is notified, the party calls for applications from members, the state election committee forwards all names to Delhi, and the parliamentary board picks the final candidate. “Any talk of giving a ticket to someone without due procedure does not arise in a party like the BJP,” it added.
Hek’s comments offering a ticket to Wahlang had sparked speculation about the party’s 2028 line-up. Monday’s rebuttal makes it clear — no names are in play until the central board says so.
