Tura (Meghalaya), Nov 28: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handed over cheques to 60 localities of Tura under the Tura Beautification Project at the District Auditorium, here. The program was organized by the Tura Municipal Board. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to transforming Tura into a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful town, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of community involvement and participation in achieving this objective.
The government has planned several upcoming projects and infrastructure developments for Tura town, including the additional Secretariat, Tura Super Market improvement project, P A Sangma Integrated Sports Complex, Tura Convention Centre, Pelga Tourism Circuit, and Tura Youth and Cultural Centre. Improvements to water supply, installation and management of streetlights and CCTVs, and promotion of public transportation are also on the agenda. The Chief Minister expressed his keenness to introduce electrical autos to make public transportation greener before the National Games 2027.
Stressing the need for children’s parks and green spaces, the Chief Minister urged localities to identify suitable spaces for such projects. The government will fund and develop these spaces, handing them over to communities for operation and management. The Chief Minister also encouraged the community to participate in the ‘Paint My City Campaign’ and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the goals of cleanliness and beautification.
The top three Best Performing Localities received Rs 1 lakh each, while the other localities received Rs 70,000. Senior officials from the district administration and Tura Municipal Boards, besides members of the locality development committees, were also present during the occasion.
