New Delhi, Nov 10: A powerful explosion ripped through a car parked near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening, killing 9 people and injuring 21 others. The blast, which occurred around 7:15 pm near Gate No. 1 of the metro station, sent shockwaves through the crowded area, causing widespread panic and destruction.
The explosion was so powerful that it shattered windows of vehicles parked nearby and was heard in surrounding buildings. According to eyewitnesses, the blast triggered a massive fire that engulfed multiple vehicles, including cars and bikes, parked in the area. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze, which was brought under control within 30 minutes.
The injured were rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where doctors confirmed the death toll. The bodies of the victims were severely charred, and identification is underway. “We received a call regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage,” said the Delhi Fire Services.
The area was cordoned off, and a high alert was sounded in Delhi following the blast. The police and bomb disposal squads reached the spot to assess the situation and collect evidence. “We are investigating the cause of the blast. Nothing can be ruled out at this point,” said a senior Delhi Police official.
The blast has raised concerns about security in the national capital, especially given the recent foiled terror plot in Faridabad. The National Security Guard (NSG) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have been deployed to examine the blast site.
The government has assured that all possible measures are being taken to ensure public safety. Delhi Chief Minister urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
