Nongtalang, July 25 : Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday called on students to lead with curiosity and creativity as Meghalaya accelerates its push for STEM education in schools.
Rymbui was the Chief Guest at the SPARK Meghalaya Certification Day held at Nongtalang Government Higher Secondary School, West Jaiñtia Hills. The event felicitated students who completed the state’s flagship programme aimed at strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning through hands-on projects.
Also present were the DSEO, West Jaiñtia Hills, the Assistant Commissioner, CEO of Avenues, school authorities, teachers and parents.
Congratulating the students, the Minister said programmes like SPARK Meghalaya are shifting classrooms from textbooks to experimentation.
“The Government of Meghalaya remains committed to quality education by promoting STEM, digital literacy and experiential learning across the state. Be curious, think critically, and use what you learn to solve real problems in society,” he said.
A key highlight was the student project exhibition. Learners presented innovative models and practical solutions developed during the programme, demonstrating how STEM education has boosted their confidence, creativity and understanding of scientific concepts.
Officials described the Certification Day as another milestone in the state’s effort to build an innovation-driven education system and prepare young learners for a rapidly changing world.
The SPARK Meghalaya initiative, implemented with Avenues, focuses on project-based learning to nurture problem-solving skills and technical aptitude among school students.
