Sohbar( Meghalaya), July 12: In a groundbreaking move, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made history by becoming the first Union Minister to visit Sohbar, a scenic border village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. Her visit underscores the Central Government’s commitment to developing border areas under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP).
Sitharaman emphasized that border villages like Sohbar are not the last, but the first point of contact for those entering India, highlighting their strategic importance. “These villages are the eyes and ears of our nation, and they deserve priority development,” she said, reiterating the government’s focus on holistic development of border areas.
The visit marks a significant step towards boosting infrastructure, livelihoods, and basic amenities in Sohbar and other border villages, enhancing the quality of life for residents and strengthening national security.
