Shillong (Meghalaya), July 12: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded Meghalaya’s efforts in promoting inclusive development and women’s empowerment during her visit to Laitkynsew Village in East Khasi Hills district. Interacting with women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Lakhpati Didis, and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Sitharaman praised the state government’s initiatives in implementing central and state schemes that benefit marginalized communities.
The Minister emphasized the importance of grassroots empowerment in achieving the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with all, Development for all). She appreciated the state’s efforts in promoting women’s entrepreneurship and community-led development, highlighting the impact of initiatives like SHGs and FPOs in improving livelihoods and fostering economic growth.
Sitharaman’s visit highlighted the government’s commitment to collaborative development, with the Minister expressing admiration for the state government’s proactive approach in implementing schemes that benefit the most vulnerable sections of society. Meghalaya Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ampareen Lyngdoh was present during the visit, which concluded with Sitharaman thanking the state government for its warm hospitality and leaving with “strong memories of the remarkable efforts underway” in Meghalaya.
