Shillong(Meghalaya), Mar 28 :The Shillong Press Club has strongly condemned the arrest and re-arrest of Dilwar Hussain Mozumder, Assistant General Secretary of the Guwahati Press Club, by the Assam Police. Mozumder was taken into custody after covering a protest at Guwahati.
The club has demanded Mozumder’s immediate and unconditional release, standing in solidarity with him. “The re-arrest of Mozumder is a shocking abuse of legal process and a direct attack on press freedom,” the club stated.
The Shillong Press Club emphasized that in a democratic society, the media plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability and attempts to suppress this role through coercion and intimidation are unacceptable.
The club has called upon the authorities to uphold the rule of law, respect the independence of the press, and protect the rights and dignity of media professionals. This incident has sparked widespread concern about press freedom and the need to preserve democratic values.
