Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 27: In a significant milestone for Meghalaya’s conservation efforts, CM Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the first phase of the Meghalaya Biological Park at Umtrew, Ri Bhoi District, on Wednesday, Nov 27.
The park, which has been 24 years in the making, is a testament to the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s rich biodiversity.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Minister A.L. Hek, MLA Celestine Lyngdoh, Chief Advisor Lakhmen Rymbui, and Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang. During the event, CM Sangma emphasized the importance of conservation and the role the park will play in promoting environmental awareness and education.
The Meghalaya Biological Park is designed to showcase the region’s diverse flora and fauna, while also providing a platform for research and conservation efforts. The park will feature various components, including animal enclosures, a botanical garden, and a conservation education center .
