Shillong, Aug 5: Down at the break, buzzing by full-time. Laitkor flipped the script in style on Tuesday, storming back with three second-half goals to beat Mylliem 3-1 in Match 7 of the Shillong Premier League 2026 at SSA Stadium.
Mylliem had the early smile. Caldolan Kharmawphlang finished coolly in the 39th minute after Remark Kharmalki tore down the wing and cut the ball back. But that lead lasted all of eight minutes into the second half.
Coach’s halftime gamble paid off instantly. Sub Samborwell Mynsong rose to head home a floated cross in the 47th to level it. Then Hamingbert Nongbet, electric all evening, grabbed the reward he deserved in the 56th — driving down the left, cutting inside, and drilling low past Rihoklang Khongjoh from a tight angle.
Redemption came for Risuk Malngiang too. The man who skied SPL’s first penalty of the season in the first half made amends in the 69th, chasing a loose ball, catching the Mylliem keeper flat-footed, and watching it deflect off him and over the line for 3-1.
It was a gritty turnaround for a Laitkor side that came in smarting from a 5-0 thumping by Mawlai on July 30. Mylliem, beaten 1-0 by Nongkseh in their opener on July 27, also shuffled the pack — three changes forced in part by Shaibor Nongrum’s red-card suspension. Laitkor made three of their own, bringing in Balajiedlang Lyngwa, Shelbilkstar Kharshilot and Iaryngkatlang Kharkrang.
The first half was cagey, both teams wary after opening losses. Alem Khongwir went close twice for Mylliem, while Laitkor’s best chance was wasted when Risuk missed the spot-kick after Hamingbert was brought down. Rihoklang also stood tall to deny Hamingbert one-on-one.
The second half told a different story. Laitkor kept the ball, kept the pressure, and kept their cool in the last 15 to close it out professionally.
Next up in the SPL will be announced by the Shillong Sports Association. Fixtures are being juggled as Shillong Lajong, Nongkseh and Langsning are away on Durand Cup 2026 duty.
