Shillong, Aug 5: Meghalaya published the Draft Electoral Roll, 2026 on Wednesday for all 60 Assembly seats under the Special Intensive Revision, opening a one-month window for claims and objections till September 4.
The Chief Electoral Officer said this is not the final roll and urged voters to check names on the Voters’ Service Portal, ECINET App, through BLOs or at ERO offices. Copies have been placed at DEO, ERO and polling station offices, and shared with political parties and traditional institutions for public inspection.
The house-to-house SIR covered all 23,49,645 electors. Of these, 7,75,665 or 33.01% were mapped as Self to 2005 records, and 11,70,792 or 49.83% as Progeny. A total of 2,22,786 or 9.48% fell under No Mapping and will go through verification and hearings. They will not be deleted automatically.
During enumeration, 1,80,402 electors were marked under ASDD categories including 81,490 deceased and 42,532 who shifted permanently.
After deletions, the draft now has 21,69,243 electors — 10,53,039 men, 11,16,199 women and 5 third gender voters. Voters whose names are missing can apply in Form 6 during this period. EROs will also take advance applications for the October 1, 2026 qualifying date.
The CEO has directed all EROs to dispose claims fairly with reasoned orders, and appealed to parties, BLAs, traditional heads and civil society to help ensure no eligible voter is left out. Lists of ASDD and omitted names have been uploaded online and displayed at BDO and municipal offices.
The ECI has also approved 86 new polling stations, taking Meghalaya’s total to 3,637. The Final Electoral Roll will be published after disposal of all claims and objections as per ECI’s schedule.
