Shillong, Aug 4: A Special POCSO Court in Shillong has convicted and sentenced a man to three years in jail for sexually molesting a 7-year-old girl, closing an 11-year-old case that began in 2015.
The accused, Abdul Khudus, was held guilty on July 28, 2026 by Smti. M. K Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, in Special POCSO Case No. 21 of 2016, linked to Madanrting PS Case No. 117(09)2015.
According to police records, the matter came to light on September 28, 2015 when an FIR was filed at Madanrting Police Station alleging that Khudus had molested the complainant’s 7-year-old granddaughter. A case was registered under Section 506 IPC read with Section 8 of the POCSO Act and the accused was arrested during the course of investigation. The charge sheet was filed on April 9, 2016.
In its verdict, the court convicted Khudus under Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act read with Section 506 IPC. He was awarded 3 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 8 POCSO Act, with a further 6 months jail in case of default. For the offence under Section 506 Part I IPC, he received an additional 2 years imprisonment.
The court noted that the convict has already spent 2 months and 1 day in custody. He will now serve the remaining sentence of 2 years, 9 months and 29 days.
