Shillong (Meghalaya), March 16 : A fresh attempt by Garo National Liberation Front (GNLA) was foiled with the arrest of three persons for their involvement in announcing the regrouping of the Garo National Liberation Army Re-group (GNLA-R).
The arrested have been identified as Sengsrang N Marak, Thosengcheba A Sangma and Chijang A. Sangma.
The arrests were made by the district police teams of West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.
A press release from the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police said that the arrested persons confessed that they have created the Facebook account “Goera Pantora” and also uploaded the press release of the GNLA-R on that account.
In Facebook account ” Goera Pantora ” a press release was uploaded saying that the GNLA was reformed on Febr 7. It was signed by one Goera Pantora Sangma, who claims to be the chairman of the newly named GNLA-Regroup.
The press release informed that incriminating articles, mobile phones and laptop were also seized from their possession, which included a Realme C11 mobile phone along with one Jio SIM card, a Lenevo Ideapad Laptop, a Nokia keypad mobile phone along with an Airtel SIM card, a Samsung Galaxy J4 mobile phone along with two Jio SIM cards, a Jio Bharat keypad mobile phone, three Airtel SIM Cards and one Vodafone SIM card, a booklet containing 82 pamphlets, and six All Garo Hills Merchants Association (AGHMA) pamphlets.
Meanwhile, police have requested people to come forward with any information about any other members of the GNLA-R. “Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given,” the statement said .
