Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Dec 3: A leopard was rescued at Aaulaguri Rubber Park today under Dotma police station in Kokrajhar district.
According to locals , the leopard was first noticed by a local person early this morning along the Rubber Park amidst the paddy crop field.
Later, forest department officials from Fakiragram range office rushed the spot and rescued the leopard.
People from nearby villages thronged Batabari village to have a glimpse of the leopard moving freely in the human habited areas.
The rescued cat was later taken to the Dotma veterinary hospital for treatment and it was decided to release the animal in Raimona National Park after full recovery .
Just few days ago an elderly person was trampled to death by two wild elephants at Murabari Salakati village as two wild elephants moved to the human habited areas from Ripu Reserve forest in search of food .
“Due to the massive increase in deforestation along the deep jungles in the districts of Bodoland Territorial Region,the wild animals are encroaching into human habited areas and creating havoc among the citizens”, said an environmentalist .
