Tura(Meghalaya), June 29: Voices in support for a probe into the mysterious deaths of two Garos, Rose Sangma and her nephew, Samuel Sangma, has been gaining ground in the state of Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Samuel and his aunt, Rose’s family, though originally Garos from Karbi Anglong in Assam, are currently based in Nagaland where Samuel’s father works.
The death of the two has caused massive uproar in the both states where the clamour for an investigation into the circumstances of the deaths has gained ground. Viral videos of the behavior of the doctors and nurses at the private nursing home in Gurugram where the incident took place have been doing the rounds on social media, with many seeking justice for the aunt and nephew.
A hashtag with Justice for Samuel has been doing the rounds in both states on social media and many NGOs have come forward to demand a serious investigation.
“The deaths of the two are condoled but we also condemn the inhuman behavior of the doctors and nurses at the hospital where they were lodged. ADE appeals to the Haryana government to look into the occurrence closely and to bring the culprits to justice. We demand a probe into the mysterious suicide of Samuel Sangma,” said ADE president, Dalseng B Ch Momin.
Meanwhile, the Public Joint Action Committee and the Achik Border Association (ABA) in Dainadubi in NGH, also questioned the circumstances leading to the death of Samuel and Rose.
“We are not convinced it’s a case of suicide. I spoke to the family of the victim who said that there were multiple injury marks on the body. The death looks suspicious as Samuel had threatened to raise the matter of his aunt’s death with authorities and was being prevented from taking videos. He was even assaulted in the hospital itself,” said general secretary of PJAC, Sutindro Marak.
He felt that in order to lay all questions to rest, an investigation into the deaths was a must and new FIRs needed to be filed.
“We just want to know what happened that a young boy and his young aunt died. We only demand a thorough investigation so that the truth can be found out,” said Brayan Marak of ABA.
ADE president Dalseng felt the issue of racial discrimination in the matter needed to be addressed.
“This is not new and happens on a daily basis for people from the NE. We appeal to the Nagaland and Meghalaya governments to take up the matter on an urgent level so that the family of the victims get justice,” said Dalseng.
