Silchar (Assam), Mar 31 : A 52-year-old man tested positive for COVID-19 in Assam’s Silchar on Tuesday, making it the first case of coronavirus infection in the state, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The 52-year-old person is from Hassanpur near Badarpur, was suffering from high fever for the few days.
He was initially undergoing treatment at Srigouri PHC near Badarpur.
He was tested at Silchar Medical College Hospital and was found positive.The National Institute of Virology in Pune confirmed the blood sample to be positive this evening.
He is presently undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The patient’s condition is currently stable, Sarma said in a tweet.

Responding to queries on Twitter about the patient’s travel history and other details, the minister said that all “needful follow up was being done”.
