Shillong(Meghalaya), May 27: A workshop on the Living Root Bridges Cultural Landscape was held at the Heritage Club, Tripura Castle, organized by the Department of Arts and Culture, Meghalaya, in collaboration with UNESCO, INTACH, and MBMA.
The initiative, envisioned by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, aims to preserve and promote the unique cultural significance of the living root bridges. Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar assured dedicated funding and highlighted ongoing research efforts with local communities.
UNESCO’s Junhi Han praised the Meghalaya government’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of protecting this distinctive cultural heritage. The workshop brought together experts to explore ways to conserve and showcase the living root bridges, a testament to Meghalaya’s rich cultural legacy.
