Shillong(Meghalaya), May 30: Amidst the ongoing adverse weather conditions, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma chaired a review meeting with Deputy Commissioners to discuss disaster management strategies.
The Chief Minister directed all DCs to be extra alert and vigilant for the next 24 hours, especially for landslides and flash floods in low-lying areas. He also instructed them to prevent traffic disruptions, ensure assistance to passengers, divide districts into zones for effective disaster management, and provide immediate relief to affected families.
The Chief Minister further directed the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to restore power in affected areas on a war footing and deploy additional manpower.
Two Lives Lost, Three Injured
As of 7 PM on May 30, two lives have been lost in East Khasi Hills District due to landslide and drowning, with three others injured. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) are actively monitoring the situation, with emergency services in action.
The Chief Minister has urged the public to stay updated, prepared, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during such events. The authorities are working tirelessly to minimize the impact of the situation and provide relief to those affected.
