Sohra , June 2: After an 8-day search, the body of Raja Raghuvanshi, one half of the Indore couple who went missing on May 23, has been recovered from a deep gorge near Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. A police drone spotted the semi-decomposed body at 11:48 am, and due to the steep terrain, it was retrieved and taken to the parking lot for a Magistrate Inquest.
The inquest, conducted by Executive Magistrate Smti Adiel R. Kyntan between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM, was witnessed by independent locals. Raja’s relatives confirmed his identity through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand reading “Raja.” Personal belongings, including a lady’s white shirt, a strip of Pentra 40, a Vivo mobile phone LCD screen, and a smartwatch, were seized from the scene.
The body has been sent to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Police are investigating the case, considering all possibilities, including foul play. Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, remains missing.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being formed to probe the case further. The police’s dedicated efforts, despite challenging weather, led to the discovery. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
