Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 15 : A dog grieving under the table where the coffin of his dead master was kept was recently seen in South West West Hills District of Meghalaya on Valentines Day .
It happened at the funeral service Late Brister Marwein in Mawlangwir in South West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya .
Late Marwein had joined the State Bank , Mawkyrwat Branch as a messenger and was promoted as Clerk and lastly as an Officer. He joined service in 1978 and retired from service in 2016.
During the funeral service the pet dog laid down curled , with tears rolling down his eyes which clearly showed the grief he was going through .
It seemed like the dog was aware of what was going on.
But, Do dogs really mourn the loss of their owners?
If you’re inclined to believe that dogs grieve over their fallen masters, there are plenty of anecdotes to support your view. Dogs sometimes wail plaintively at funerals, refuse to leave the cemetery, and even track down a deceased owner’s grave weeks after death .
According to a study two-thirds of dogs experience lethargy and loss of appetite after another dog in the household passes, suggesting that dogs are capable of mourning fellow canines, if not human companions.
Sadly , the only way to surmise a dog’s emotional state is through its behavior, which is variable and open to interpretation.
Way back in March 2015 after the mysterious death of an IAS officer DK Ravi in Bangalore the bureaucrat’s pet dog was seen mourning the death of his master as his body was being carried away in a hearse.
Pictures posted on Twitter showed the mourning pet standing with DK Ravi’s bereaved wife and relatives in front of the late officers corpse.
