Shillong, Nov 4: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has reshuffled his cabinet, reallocating portfolios to three ministers with immediate effect on the advice of the Governor.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Affairs Department on November 3, 2026, the changes have been made in partial modification of the earlier portfolio allocation order dated September 16, 2025.
Newly inducted minister Paul Lyngdoh, who returned to the cabinet after switching from UDP to NPP, has been assigned the high-profile departments of Social Welfare, Tourism and Arts and Culture. The allocation of Tourism, considered the showpiece department of the state, is being seen as a clear sign of the Chief Minister’s confidence in his new colleague.
Timothy D. Shira has been allocated Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Power and Water Resources, three departments that touch every household and village in Meghalaya. Sanbor Shullai has been given Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Fisheries, Taxation, Legal Metrology and Printing and Stationery.
The reshuffle comes just days after Paul Lyngdoh took oath at Lok Bhavan and is being viewed in political circles as Conrad tightening his team ahead of the GHADC polls and the 2028 assembly elections, rewarding loyalty while balancing the new strength of the NPP after the collapse of the UDP.
