Shillong (Meghalaya), April 20 : A murder accused who is infected with COVID-19 and tried to escape from a hospital in Guwahati was finally held in Meghalaya.
The Covid positive accused gave a slip and escaped from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahati on Monday.
Gafur Ali who is accused of three murders was apprehended by Hajo Police a few days back.
Subsequently he was diagnosed as COVID positive and was shifted to MMC Hospital, Guwahati.
On 19/04/2021 it was learnt that the said accused person managed to run away from the hospital.
Acting on intelligence inputs , a team of Kamrup Police led by Ms . Phulkan Narzary, DySP (P) and SI Babul Medhi, OC, Hajo PS apprehended the said accused person at about 4:30 am today from Ladrymbai, Meghalaya alongwith his brother who is a co-accused namely Sikan Ali.
The team, defying all odds, displayed extreme level professionalism, taking all precautions and even risking their lives for the people to nab a COVID positive person.
Both the culprits are being brought back to Assam following proper COVID protocols .
Sharing a picture of the two accused in the PPE kits, Assam Police tweeted, “Corona giveth & Corona taketh away! When you are a #Covid19 + murder accused and try escaping from MMC Hospital, Guwahati, but end up in custody, socially distanced & PPE’d, along with a co-accused.”
