New Delhi, April 30 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a major infrastructure project – the development of a 4-lane greenfield access-controlled highway corridor from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam.
The project spans 166.80 km and will be built on a Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total capital cost of Rs 22,864 crore.
The project will significantly improve connectivity and economic growth in the region, particularly for traffic moving from Guwahati to Silchar. With 144.80 km in Meghalaya and 22 km in Assam, this development is expected to enhance regional connectivity and foster economic development in the Northeast.
