Shillong (Meghalaya), May 20: The Meghalaya Basin Development Agency (MBDA) and Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) have released a statement clarifying allegations made by an RTI applicant regarding the implementation of the Cluster Development Program (CDP) on Lakadong Turmeric.
According to the statement, the CDP is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, designed to create a transformative impact in the lives of Lakadong turmeric farmers. The program aims to leverage the geographical specialization of horticulture clusters and promote integrated and market-led development.
West Jaintia Hills was selected as one of the 12 pilot clusters under the CDP nationwide, and the program is being implemented as per the guidelines and mandates of the National Horticulture Board (NHB).
The MBDA and MBMA have assured that the program is being implemented transparently and effectively to benefit the local farmers and communities. The clarification comes amid allegations made by an RTI applicant, and the agencies have denied any wrongdoing in the implementation of the program.
