Shillong (Meghalaya ), Dec 07 : There were touching scenes witnessed as the moral remains of musical maestro Neil Nongkynrih reached his residence at around 1 am from Mumbai .
His coffin was accompanied by the members of the Shillong Chamber Choir who were camping at Mumbai for past three months for some professional work .The famous music conductor and composer who led the SCC to national fame after a reality TV show about a decade ago, died at the Reliance Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday after a brief illness.
Neil and the entire Choir were in Mumbai for the past three months on work. He was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and passed away on Wednesday evening after a surgery.
An alumni of London’s prestigious Trinity College of Music and of Guildhall School of Music, Neil came back in 2001 after years of performing and teaching music in England, to set up the Shillong Chamber Choir.
Neil, a renowned concert pianist, studied music at the Trinity College and Guildhall School of Music in London and was the Founder, Director, Chief Conductor and Mentor of the Shillong Chamber Choir, one of our country’s finest choirs that has enthralled audiences wherever they performed the world over. In recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Music, he was conferred the prestigious Padma Shri in 2015.
Even over and above his exceptional talents and accomplishments, Neil stood out as an utmost gentle, spiritual, and humble human being and he will be missed and mourned by one and all.
His last rites will be held here on Saturday .
