Tura ( Meghalaya), April 15 : As the counting of votes for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in Meghalaya ended , the Congress has emerged as the single-largest party with victory in 12 out of 29 seats. The National People’s Party (NPP) closely followed Congress with 11 seats.
While the BJP has won 2 seats, Garo National Council has managed to grab just one seat.
Three seats were won by independent candidates.
Despite it claims The United Democratic Party (UDP) could not open its account.
Congress won the seats in Kharkutta, Rongrong, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Samandagre, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Betasing, Amongpara, Batabari and Balachanda. while NPP won in Nogorpara, Siju, Bolsong, Darugre, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang.
The BJP won the prestigious seats in Barengapara and Tura, while the GNC won Rongrikimgre.
BJP’s Pramod Koch defeated the rival candidates in the Barengapara seat, while the party’s Bernard Marak registered victory in the Tura seat.
Independent candidate Arbinestone Marak was declared victorious from the Rochonpara seat.
Incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) of GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council) and NPP candidate from Rochonpara constituency – Dipul Marak has lost the elections. Dipul Marak was defeated by independent candidate Arbinestone Marak.
A total 182 candidates were in the fray 29 GHADC constituencies and their fate was decided by 7,43,717 voters.
Voting for 29 constituencies of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections were held on April 12 across 409 polling stations.
