Shillong (Meghalaya ) , Aug 24 : Former HNLC chairman and ex -MLA of Mawhati , Julius K Dorphrang was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 15 lakh for raping minor girl in the year 2016 .
He was sentenced by the special judge of POSCO Court , F K Sangma on Tuesday .
While the judgement was pronounced on Aug 13 last the quantum of punishment was announced today .
Dorphrang was the chairman of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council ( HNLC) and was based in Bangladesh prior to his surrender .
He was also a former legislator from Mawhati.
After the sentence ,he has been shifted to Nongpoh District Jail .
Meanwhile , his lawyer K . Gautam said that they would appeal before the High Court for suspension of the sentence .
