Shillong(Meghalaya), Aug 25 : The residents of Mawlai under the banner “Ka Sur Ki Nongmawlai” today burnt the effigies of Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui and three top police officials , SP EJH , J.Singh, S. Bomania, S P (Traffic) and DGP R. Chandranathan, as a mark of protest against the government’s inaction to suspend all those police personnel who were involved in the killing of surrendered HNLC leader C. Thangkhiew on Aug 13 last .
The effigies were burnt near Mawlai Petrol Pump junction amidst shouting of slogans, “Long Live Bah Che”, “We demand for our rights” and “We demand justice”.
Earlier , Ka Synjuk Ki Nongmawlai during the meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma at the Main Secretariat here had demanded that all those involved in the killing of Thangkhiew should be suspended within one week.
While CM Conrad K. Sangma stuck to his point that an Inquiry has been ordered by the state Government and the inquiry should be allowed to probe all the aspects that led to the unfortunate incident on Aug 13 which led to the death of surrendered HNLC leader , C. Thangkhiew .
He also said that the inquiry will submit its report to the state Government within three months .
The peaceful burning of effigies passed off peacefully this evening after the deadline to suspend the police personnel ended yesterday.
