Shillong (Meghalaya), June 4: The search for Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, whose semi-decomposed body was recovered from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls, has hit a roadblock due to inclement weather. Sonam’s brother, Govind, has alleged that she has been kidnapped, adding a new twist to the case.
The rescue operations, which involve over 50 personnel from NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, SIT, SOT, and local volunteers, have been hindered by heavy rainfall and poor visibility in the Sohra area. The terrain, already challenging, has become even more treacherous, making it difficult for the rescue teams to navigate.
A raincoat with suspected bloodstains was recovered during the search operation, but it’s unclear if it belongs to Sonam. The police are investigating the possibility of foul play and abduction.
Meanwhile, the family of the couple has demanded a CBI investigation into the case, alleging that the local police may not be equipped to handle the investigation impartially. Raja’s brother had identified his body through a distinctive tattoo and expressed concerns over missing valuables, including gold rings, chain, and wallet.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Raja’s murder has recovered a machete, believed to be the murder weapon. The postmortem has been conducted, and the report is awaited.
As the search for Sonam continues, the weather remains a major concern, with heavy rainfall forecasted for the next few days. The authorities are working tirelessly to locate Sonam and bring the perpetrators to justice.
