Shillong (Meghalaya), July 17 : The Meghalaya government has not ruled out community spread of Coronavirus at Khanapara area in Ri-Bhoi district bordering Guwahati in Assam.
Out of 26 new Covid-19 positive cases which were reported on Friday, seven new positive cases reported from Ri Bhoi district. This include 5 from Baridua (high risk contacts of positive patients) under Khanapara area bordering Guwahati, and another 2 are health workers deployed at the entry checking point, Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district.
The total cases now stand at 403 with 352 active cases . 49 patients have been discharged after recovery and 2 deaths .
DHS (MI) Dr Aman War informed that two of the health staff have been admitted at the RP Chest Hospital, Shillong.
“We suspect community spread at Khanapara area and curfew is being imposed from Byrnihat to deter people from coming out unnecessarily, and prevent further spread of the virus,” he said.
