Shillong (Meghalaya), May 23: One distress call to 1971 CM CONNECT ended three years of silence and abuse for a Meghalaya youth rescued from Jammu & Kashmir.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma received him at Guwahati Airport on Friday, calling the moment proof that simple systems save lives. The helpline triggered swift interstate action on April 24 after reports of forced labor and abuse. Within hours, officials and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit traced and pulled him from a Srinagar premises.
The state govt deputed a magistrate to ensure his safety, secured his pending wages, and escorted him home. Sangma said CM CONNECT has become more than a grievance line. For families cut off from loved ones, it is a lifeline that brings them back.
