Shillong (Meghalaya), May 23: Craft, commerce, and careers collided at NIFT Shillong on Friday as Graduation Show 2026 turned the campus into a launchpad for Northeast India’s next generation of designers.
Sixteen weeks of industry projects across five departments went on display, with students from fashion design, textile design, accessory design, communication, and management showcasing work done with leading brands nationwide. Many walked out of the show with placements already secured.
Principal Secretary, Department of Textiles, Frederick Roy Kharkongor said the blend of heritage and innovation proved the case for deeper ties between education, industry, and regional development. He noted growing collaboration between the state government and NIFT under Campus Director Dr. Brijesh Deore. IIM Shillong Director Prof. Nalini Prava Tripath urged graduates to pair creativity with entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary thinking.
The event drew industry professionals, alumni, and academicians hunting for fresh talent. As part of NIFT’s outreach, students from Hill View and Seven Set Secondary Schools also attended, meeting faculty and graduates to explore careers in design.
