Kolkata, Aug 20: Jadavpur University was placed under tight security on Thursday after a late-night meet between SFI and ABVP activists left 20 students injured.
The violence erupted on Wednesday night during a general body meeting of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students’ Union (FETSU), sparking a confrontation between the two rival student groups.
SFI leaders alleged that ABVP members were trying to “take control” of the university following the formation of the new state government in West Bengal. ABVP countered that SFI activists attacked its office-bearers inside the campus in the name of the meeting.
Both sides have filed complaints against each other with police.
With tensions running high, both SFI and ABVP have called for separate protest demonstrations on campus on Thursday.
University authorities have deployed additional security personnel across the South Kolkata campus to prevent further flare-ups and maintain order.
