Shillong, Aug 3: Shillong was rocked at noon on Monday after two masked men struck the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board office in Lumpyngad with a petrol bomb.
The blast, reported at around 12:10 PM, hit the outer wall of the building. Thankfully no one was hurt and the damage was limited to scorch marks on the wall. The attackers vanished from the scene within seconds.
The East Khasi Hills District Administration condemned the act and moved fast. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt, with forensic teams and CCTV footage now under scrutiny to trace the culprits and their motive.
Calling it an attack on public safety, officials warned that anyone linked to the incident, directly or indirectly, will face the full force of the law. “Such acts will be dealt with swiftly and severely,” the administration said.
In the meantime, authorities have appealed for calm and urged people not to circulate unverified rumors. Anyone with information or video of the incident has been asked to contact the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills. Police have assured complete confidentiality for all informants.
The incident has left the Lumpyngngad area on edge as investigations continue.
