Guwahati (Assam), June 26: The Gauhati High Court on Friday turned down Siddhartha Sarma’s bail plea for the second time, keeping the former manager of late singer Zubeen Garg in judicial custody.
Sarma’s application was dismissed by Judicial Magistrate Mitali Thakuria’s court, a senior lawyer confirmed. The High Court had earlier refused bail after a Fast Track Court cited the seriousness of the charges and ongoing investigation.
Sarma is among seven accused chargesheeted by an Assam CID Special Investigation Team in an alleged criminal conspiracy linked to Garg’s death. The singer died on September 19 last year while swimming near Lazarus Island in Singapore, a day before a North East International Festival event. Singapore Police found no foul play.
Earlier this month, Sarma moved the High Court seeking to reopen his firm Mahabir Aqua and defreeze bank accounts attached during the probe. He also asked the court to consider the Singapore findings.
With the latest order, Sarma stays in custody as the high-profile trial moves ahead. The case continues to draw intense public attention in Assam due to Garg’s massive following.
