Shillong, June 27 : Shillong Traffic Police pulled over 80 violators and collected ₹81,500 in fines during a citywide night crackdown on June 26, intensifying its push for zero road deaths under Operation Safer Shillong.
The synchronised multi-point NAKA drive was carried out by Shillong Traffic Personnel and the Special Operation Team with help from Laitumkhrah Dorbar members, targeting drunken driving, illegal vehicle modifications, and other offences.
Motorists caught driving under the influence were stopped on the spot and released only after a responsible person arrived to escort them home safely.
Officials said such weekend enforcement drives will continue regularly to promote responsible driving and curb drunk driving, with the broader aim of making Shillong a zero-road fatality city.
