Shillong (Meghalaya), May 02: Reigning champions Mawlai SC proved their young core can handle the heat, beating Lamin XI SCC 2-1 in Amlarem on Saturday to lock in a Meghalaya State League pre-quarterfinal berth. With most seniors away on I-League 3 duty, pressure mounted after Monday’s draw with Laskein SCSC. But Mawlai’s next gen answered. Syndongmiki Lyngdoh struck in the 9th minute before Genial Lamin leveled for bottom side Lamin XI in the 63rd. Livingson Lyngdoh restored order with a 77th-minute winner for the 2024-25 title holders.
In Shillong, Nangkiew Irat SC clinched Group B’s top spot in style, routing Mawphu SC 6-1. Jefferson Pakyntein’s hat-trick in the 16th, 32nd and 57th minutes headlined the show, while Dibinroy Nongspung scored in the 4th, Ronaldkydon L Nonglait in the 44th, and Nikelson Bina converted an 83rd-minute penalty. Banman Roy Nongsiej replied for Mawphu in the 54th.
Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC also advanced from Group E, coming from behind to beat Lamyrsiang SCC 3-1 in Wahiajer through Phrangsngi Law in the 52nd and a Sonowel Kharsati double in the 79th and 81st minutes after Eborki Marsharing’s 14th-minute opener. Shillong Lajong FC have joined them in the next round.
Ladthadlaboh SC crushed Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 10-1 in Khliehriat, with Shanhok Siangshai and Andrew Nanghuloo both hitting hat-tricks. Mishon SSCC beat Umlakro SC 3-0 in Mairang. Janepih YSCA-Marаm FC and Mawlarshong SC-Mawten SC both finished 0-0.
Monday sees Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC face Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC and Balmanduri FC meet Attong Matgrik FC, both at 3pm.
