Guwahati (Assam) , April 24: In a major setback for Pawan Khera, the Guwahati High Court on Friday rejected an anticipatory bail plea filed by the Congress leader in connection with the FIR by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
The judgment, which was reserved by the single-judge Bench of Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia on Tuesday, gave the judgment on Friday.
The court observed that the allegations against the Chief Minister’s wife lacked merit and were politically motivated.
According to Assam Advocate General Devajit Lon Saikia, the case involved serious offences, including forgery and cheating. He said that the investigation revealed prima facie material indicating deliberate wrongdoing, warranting denial of anticipatory bail and custodial interrogation.
After his setback at the Supreme Court that refused to extend his protection in the light of the Telengana High Court, Khera moved the Guwahati High Court.
