Babelapara(Meghalaya), April 17: Cheers greeted Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma at Babelapara Higher Secondary School Thursday as teachers felicitated him for the new Structured Pay Framework and walked away with a ₹20 lakh sanction for the school.
The programme under Purakhasia C&RD Block, South West Garo Hills, was hosted by the school’s SMC and the All Meghalaya Upper Primary & Secondary Deficit Pattern School Teachers’ Association to thank the government for bringing fixed-pay teachers under SPF. The private school runs Arts and Commerce streams for around 600 students.
Joined by 55-Salmanpara MLA Ian Botham K. Sangma and 7-Babelapara GHADC MDC Rakesh A. Sangma, the Chief Minister heard appeals for help with cramped infrastructure and funding gaps. He called education the state’s top priority and said the SPF ensures transparent, equitable and sustainable pay for fixed-pay teachers with stronger service conditions and social security. Upgrading schools began with 100 Lower Primary units and will roll out in phases, he said, pegging the total need at ₹2,000 crore.
Announcing ₹20 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Development Fund for Babelapara Higher Secondary School, he said the focus is on rural and remote areas so students get equal opportunities. Ian Botham K. Sangma added that the government is pushing hard on infrastructure, teacher quality, and access across underserved pockets.
