Nongpoh(Meghalaya), April 15: The lanes of Nongpoh turned into a river of resolve as young women and mothers of Ri-Bhoi carried the promise of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam from doorstep to district, vowing to take its message to every village and locality across the state,
The rally, framed as both celebration and summons, hailed the 33% reservation for women in governance as a hinge of history, opening the doors of Parliament, Assembly, and District Council to voices long kept at the threshold. Smt. Arena Hynniewta, State President of BJP Mahila Morcha Meghalaya, said the law redefines duty itself, urging women to step forward as lawmakers and architects of change, not only beneficiaries of it.
She argued that women in leadership can untangle the knots that bind youth to limited education, scarce employment, and narrow horizons, translating authority into protection and pathways. The gathering thanked the present government for enacting the legislation and acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for advancing a vision that places women’s aspirations at the centre of policy.
The mood was neither ornamental nor ornate. It was practical, insistent, and united, with speakers declaring that women will no longer be catalogued by tradition alone. They will legislate, represent, and rebuild, carrying the new law as both shield and blueprint for a society ready to move.
